History

Olivia Tyler takes after her aunt much more than she does either of her parents. From a young age, she was always an exceptionally bright girl, and when she was five, she stumbled into the wonderful world of computers. Olivia took to the digital world like a fish to water, soon rising to prominence in cyberspace as a hacker of no small ability. At school, teachers might have looked down on her as only being a kid, but online, she could be whoever she wanted to be, and people only cared about her talent, not something as arbitrary as her age.

Despite numerous high-profile hacking attempts (including several high-security government databases), Olivia remained largely under the radar until she was fourteen, when she found interesting a few very interesting databases maintained under her own aunt's name. Her curiosity got the better of her, and she had to investigate. What she discovered was that her aunt Marsha Richmond was actually a costumed hero who called herself Nano. Olivia hacked into the control mechanisms for her nanotech suit's AI and borrowed the costume for herself.

It wasn't long before Nano found the tampering. Rather than be upset, she was amazed at how intelligent her niece was, considering how elaborate she'd made her network's defenses. She approached Olivia and offered her a job as a superhero, taking up Nano's old mantle for herself. Olivia jumped at the chance, and worked with her aunt to create her own nanotech costume.

Unfortunately, that was the easy part. Olivia took to training like a walrus to the desert. She simply wasn't an athletic young woman, and she depended heavily on her suit's abilities to keep up. As such, Nano refused to let the girl go on any actual missions until she was really ready.

Olivia's first chance would come a few weeks later. While Nano was investigating murders in Arcadia City linked to a recently-escaped villain, she was captured. Olivia donned her costume and went off to the rescue, managing to free Nano before the villain Maw found her. The fight was over quickly: Maw manhandled Olivia and nearly killed her with a burst of energy. Nano managed to get Olivia out and clear, hoping her suit's healing protocols would be able to help the girl recover. As expected, the nanotech bound itself to Olivia's wounds and acted as temporary tissue for her to keep her alive. What Nano didn't realize was the extent of Olivia's injuries. The nanotech had to replace huge portions of Olivia's body, and when it calculated the most efficient means to do so, the nanotech realized that wholesale replacement of the girl's organic parts would have the best chance for the girl's recovery.

And so Olivia Tyler's body was transformed into a living mass of nanotechnology. Nano contacted Scion to help the girl cope with her sudden transformation, who took on the responsibility of training the girl to use her strange new powers. Olivia took the name Nanite for herself.

Powers and Abilities

Nanite has had her body transformed into a living mass of microscopic machines called nanobots, and as such, she is naturally resilient to damage and has some limited control over her shape. But her true strength is in her amazing cyberpathic abilities, whereby her nanite body infinitely enhances her already formidable computer and hacking skills. With a thought, she can stop machines in their tracks or interface with machine at impossible speeds from miles away. She is also capable of utilizing her unusual abilities to literally seep into a machine and take total control of it.

Role on the Team

Olivia is among the most technically-savvy members of the group, making her a valuable asset when dealing with machines or computers. She really shines when fighting robotic enemies, where her cyberpathy enables her to hinder them or even control them with her posession ability. Her true home is in cyberspace, the Digital Web 2.0, where her programing skills enable her to quickly create just about anything her friends need. While her shapeshifting abilities are limited, they do enable her a bit of versaility against non-robotic opponents, and more importantly, they help to keep her safe during battle, making her more durable than most infiltrators and tech-savvy heroes.
